Most smartphones today come with an in-built voice recorder app. For example, if you own a Google Pixel device, you will love the Recorder app that also converts audio recordings into transcripts. Similarly, the voice recorder app on the latest Samsung devices does a great job at audio recordings. But as with apps from any category, one is never enough. You always want the next best option on your phone.
Dolby On, one of the more recent voice recording apps on the market, lets you record more than just audio. The first thing that stands out is its vibrant user interface (UI). The on-screen recording buttons are prominent. Bright colours are a common theme throughout the UI. The transitions from one recording mode to another or from one section of the app to another are visually smooth. The main recording setup is straightforward. One-button taps take you from the audio recorder into video recording mode or a livestream mode, which allows you to stream your recordings on Soundcloud and Twitch.

Once you are done recording, the app applies a set of automatic studio effects to fine-tune sound quality, which include noise reduction, limiting, spatial audio and EQ, among others. You can actually hear the difference when listening to your original recording and then hearing it in Dolby mode. It’s recommended that you use headphones while listening to a playback to notice the evident difference in sound quality.
Some other useful settings include adding a 3-2-1 countdown timer before you begin recording or live-streaming. There is also the option of recording in lossless audio, which lets you record uncompressed 48kHz, 16 bit WAV files.
Dolby On can be used as your go-to voice recorder for daily tasks. But podcasters, musicians, and performers who often demand good audio and video recording capabilities on one platform might find this app more appealing.
